I grew up in the South East of England (Kent) with my parents and older sister. I’ve always been interested in how children learn, and my first degree in Psychology gave me a great insight into this. During this time, I lived in London for three years and developed an admiration for big cities and all the exciting things they have to offer. My fascination with new cities continued when I took a gap year after my degree and explored South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand. I have now been in Chicago for four years and love living here and being part of the BISC-LP community! I enjoy cycling around the various neighborhoods and exploring different parts of this vibrant city.

Learning should be personalized to each student. Children are individuals and learn in different ways. I believe my background in Psychology and Special Educational Needs has well equipped me in understanding how individual children learn. This has allowed me to tailor my teaching to the individual needs of my pupils. Personalized learning is fundamental in Early Years, as this is when a child’s approach to learning is developed. I believe, when learning is personalized, it is challenging, exciting and engaging. It allows individuals to reach their optimum potential and achieve more. My implementation of personalized learning was praised by Ofsted in March 2016. My EYFS Department was awarded Outstanding (as was the whole school) specifically noting individuals making a “flying start” in Early Years.

Having completed a PGCE in my hometown of Manchester in the UK in 2008, I decided to embark on an adventure teaching children in schools internationally. My first stop was Beijing in 2010, where I worked at the Nord Anglia school for five years. After that I moved to Hong Kong and worked for another international school before rejoining the Nord Anglia school in Hong Kong in 2017. I have been in Chicago now for six months teaching in Nursery, but I am very excited to be moving to the Pre-Nursery class this year and teaching the youngest students in our school!

Hello I am from sunny Manchester in England and have been working in the Middle East for the last 8 years. I absolutely love America but have never been to Chicago. I can’t wait to learn more about Chicago and see all the wonderful parks, museums, beaches and history of the city. I would love to go to a Cubs and Bulls game and get into the sport of the city! I love to travel and see the world but my favourite place is to go to Disneyworld! I love to scuba dive in different parts of the world and see all the marine life.
