I've always had a passion for health and wellness, so after a couple of years, I decided to return to school and earn a degree in health and wellness. I worked as a massage therapist for many years, helping people combat stress and enhance their well-being. My massage career stopped due to COVID, but I loved tailoring my massages to different health care needs. COVID gave me a chance to stop and reflect on what I wanted to do next. While I had always worked with children throughout my career volunteering, babysitting and caregiving, I realized how much I missed working with young children. I have been influential in the well-being of others for some time; now, I want to be effective in helping children with their well-being. I want to help ignite their love for learning, support their educational aspirations and enhance their emotional well-being. Unique and global opportunities allow children to be more compassionate toward others, communicate effectively with diverse groups of people, and encourages self-awareness. Working with children is rewarding because each day is different. You get to be a part of a community that allows them to learn, grow, and become independent.
I am looking forward to starting at the British International School Chicago, Lincoln Park, because the school's values not only align with my own, but the school works hard to instill a love for learning in their students. I like their focus on the whole child, differentiated learning to challenge students and a strong sense of community. Children have increased access to opportunities, learn in a safe environment, and I respect and appreciate the parental and teacher involvement. I will strive to be dedicated, listen attentively, collaborate, and show empathy and patience while engaging students the best way I know.
I can't wait to get started. When I am not working, I do yoga, spend time with friends, family, and volunteer for many different nonprofit causes.
