Early Childhood Learning Assistant

I was born and raised in Whiting, IN with my parents and sister Beth Strandlund who is an Early Childhood Teacher here at the British School. Although I am from Indiana, I consider Chicago my home as I have lived here for more than 25 years, while raising my soon-to-be 18-year old daughter Emma in the Old Irving Park neighborhood. For most of my professional career, I have worked as a media relations specialist for Division I universities/colleges and their student athletes, including stints at the University of Connecticut, Marquette University and Northwestern University. I have also worked in the non-profit world and was the Director of Public Relations at La Rabida Children's Hospital on the southside of Chicago. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my daughter Emma, my friends, and family. You also can find me coaching youth basketball!!

Learning should be personalized to each student. No child is the same, every child has their own unique set of gifts. We, as educators, should help them find and develop these gifts so that they can live a happy and fulfilling life.
