My name is Sarah Lent, and although I’ve only lived in Chicago for the last year, my family roots are here. Not only are my family’s roots here in the Windy City, but my roots are also in education: My grandfather was a college professor, and my mother has taught preschool music for the last 30 years. Prior to relocating to Chicago, I spent the last decade working in education in Denver, Colorado. My degree is in music education, but with my additional certifications, I’ve also worked as a reading interventionist, a kindergarten teacher, and a preschool teacher.
Perhaps what I have come to love the most over the last year teaching in Chicago is the vast cultural blend this city has to offer. Every family and child comes with their own unique story, and it is my joy and privilege to help those stories flourish in my classroom.
I believe that every child is an individual, and no two students are going to learn the exact same way. Understanding this and planning for each child will lend itself to a more successful teaching practice. I’m excited to join the team at BISC-LP because teaching early learners is one of my favorite pastimes. Getting to instill an early love of learning is a gift. My goal is to find what makes each child come alive in my classroom and help them achieve their very best.
