I grew up in the South East of England (Kent) with my parents and older sister. I’ve always been interested in how children learn, and my first degree in Psychology gave me a great insight into this. During this time, I lived in London for three years and developed an admiration for big cities and all the exciting things they have to offer. My fascination with new cities continued when I took a gap year after my degree and explored South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand. I have now been in Chicago for four years and love living here and being part of the BISC-LP community! I enjoy cycling around the various neighborhoods and exploring different parts of this vibrant city.

Learning should be personalized to each student. Children are individuals and learn in different ways. I believe my background in Psychology and Special Educational Needs has well equipped me in understanding how individual children learn. This has allowed me to tailor my teaching to the individual needs of my pupils. Personalized learning is fundamental in Early Years, as this is when a child’s approach to learning is developed. I believe, when learning is personalized, it is challenging, exciting and engaging. It allows individuals to reach their optimum potential and achieve more. My implementation of personalized learning was praised by Ofsted in March 2016. My EYFS Department was awarded Outstanding (as was the whole school) specifically noting individuals making a “flying start” in Early Years.

I was born and raised in the bustling city of Glasgow in Scotland. Now commencing my 9th year here in Chicago, I am excited for the year ahead as our community continues to grow. In Glasgow, we have a saying that ‘People make Glasgow’; the same could be said for Chicago. I love visiting the different neighborhoods, exploring the city and suburbs, meeting new people and celebrating the diversity, foods and cultures that makes Chicago shine, just as its beautiful architecture does.

I am originally from the city of Glasgow, Scotland. Always keen to be creative, I completed my undergraduate degree in Textile Design at Duncan of Jordanstone School of Art at Dundee University. However, I soon realized that I wanted to channel that creative energy into working with children and after graduating I completed my postgraduate degree in Primary Education. In my nine years’ experience as a classroom teacher, I have had the pleasure of teaching in locations all over Scotland, including six years at a school near beautiful Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the British Isles. This included seeing the steam train from the Harry Potter films pass my school every morning in the summer term! My love for travel and visits to U.S. cities inspired me to move Chicago last year, and I have enjoyed every minute of living in such a vibrant and diverse city.

I am from a beautiful city in the south west of England, Salisbury. I attended the University of Plymouth, Rolle College in Devon where I undertook my teaching degree. During my four-year degree I got the opportunity to do one of my teaching placements in Fredonia, New York. This certainly sparked my love of the USA. After I graduated with my qualified teacher status, I moved to East London to teach in the Borough of Newham. I loved getting to work with such a diverse community of people, learning about different cultures, languages and traditions. I have lived in Chicago for eight years now and I am so happy to call this wonderful city home. I love exploring the different neighborhoods and trying the different cultures of food around the city! I have also been incredibly lucky to travel around many parts of the USA and I love visiting everything from the mountains in Colorado to the beaches in California!

Creativity and challenge help our students get better every day. Creativity is always at the forefront of learning in the early years. Everyday leads towards children creating their own experiences that help to develop a love for learning as well as building an important foundation of skills. It is through this love for learning that children can then be challenged to develop and grow their understanding.

This beautiful city of Chicago is where I was born and raised, in the Ravenswood neighborhood. I come from a large, close-knit family of six and have an even larger amount of extended family members of which most live in León, Guanajuato, México, where both my parents are from. In my spare time I love spending time with my family and friends; exploring new places to eat, participating in community service projects with my sorority, dancing and more! After graduating in May 2008 from Loyola University Chicago, I continued working in retail and enjoyed traveling. Since joining BISC-LP in 2009, I’ve assisted in classes from Nursery to Year 2 and in the Spanish Language Department for Key Stage 2; I’ve had so much fun with my students and have developed great relationships with them and the parents!
