Jon Arias-Prieto

Year 3 Teacher

I have dual Spanish and British nationality, having a Spanish father and an English mother. I am fluent in both languages and moved frequently between England and Spain while I was growing up. When living in Madrid as a teenager, I attended a British International School. I am passionate about the literary aspect of languages and read Spanish and Latin American Studies at University and also specialized in Spanish during my teacher training.

I am an experienced MFL (modern foreign languages) leader having lead Spanish for three years at a school in Chelsea, London. I am passionate about ensuring that Spanish is practiced not just in the classroom but throughout the school and in everyday life. I believe that learning through songs, games, and links between languages is a valuable way of encouraging children to be enthusiastic and passionate about Spanish. Most importantly, learning another language is crucial to preparing children for our increasingly globalized and multilingual jobs market.

The enjoyment and satisfaction that I have had in my career have been achieved through a combination of high personal expectations and a good sense of humour. I strive to bring these elements into the classroom, along with warmth, compassion, and the belief that because we have children in our care for such a short time, it is our duty to give them every opportunity to develop to the best of their ability.

  • Universities Attended: Kingston University, London; Southampton University, Southampton.

  • Degrees Earned: PGCE Primary with Modern Languages, BA Spanish and Latin American Studies
