I grew up in Wakefield (West Yorkshire) with my mum, dad and younger brother before moving to Manchester to attend university. After receiving my BSc in Chemistry, I was a teaching assistant in a primary school, before completing my PGCE at Leeds University. Since 2011, I have volunteered for the Serious Fun Network (Barretstown) supporting children living with illness, which is a charity very close to my heart.
This year has gone by in a whirlwind and I have loved my first year in Chicago and as part of the BISC-LP family. The community at BISC-LP have been extremely welcoming and I have fallen in love with the city and the people I have met here. I love the lake and am determined to make sure I go kayaking this year as well as plant trips to explore more of America.
I was a primary teacher for five years in a school in inner city Manchester before moving to Chicago. During this time, I was lucky enough to receive training with Math mastery expert Dr Yeap Ban Har and Writing expert Pie Corbett. I am thrilled to continue my journey at BISC - Lincoln park for a second year. My main aims when teaching are to encourage children to become resilient, confident and ambitious learners (with lots of smiles along the way).
I believe there is no limit to what a child can achieve, and every pupil has the right to become the best they can. I will do all I can to help children believe and achieve this.
