Anna Ostler 2016

Music Specialist, Part Time

I love the variety that primary teaching offers and I enjoy working within a committed team and using my creative skills to motivate and inspire our pupils.  Working at the British School of Chicago, Lincoln Park allows me to combine my teaching and creative skills with my passion for music.  It is a highly rewarding experience to share the school’s outstanding musical resources with all of our talented and motivated children who, above all, are excited to explore and learn.

As part of the Juilliard – Nord Anglia Performing Arts Programme , I am delighted to have been selected as one of the inaugural schools. We are a very strong team of music staff at BISC-LP who are extremely passionate about delivering the Juilliard curriculum to our fantastic students thus enabling them to unlock their creative potential in more ways than ever before. We have been fortunate to benefit from extensive professional development opportunities and in-person training sessions from Juilliard alumni. Consequently, we now have an exciting, ongoing relationship with Juilliard Curriculum Specialists and Performing Artists resulting in one-on-one support and multiple visits throughout the year to further enhance our existing music programme.

About Anna

I completed my undergraduate degree in Music at Durham University before moving to the University of Cambridge to undertake my Post Graduate Certificate of Education.  I have always wanted to teach so was excited to begin my career as a Year 1 class teacher at a school in Lancashire, England.  Whilst there I was the music co-ordinator for the entire Primary School and strived to provide inspirational and fun musical experiences for all the children, both in and out of class.

Since then I have been the classroom teacher in Key Stage 2 and Foundation stage.  I now teach Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 Music.  I thoroughly enjoy every age group I teach as each key stage is unique and hugely rewarding to be involved in.  I was thrilled to be offered the chance to work at the British School of Chicago, Lincoln Park.  Having spent much of my childhood and adult life travelling, I felt working and living in a new country combined my two passions and has proven to be an extremely positive and exciting experience.

I love to travel.  I take every opportunity to try a new town, city or country.  I enjoy skiing in the winter and, now it’s warmed up, am training for the Chicago Marathon.

What our students say:

“Miss Keane is very cheerful and fun and teaches us all the pitches in the world.”

“I love Music because I love Miss Keane.”

“Miss Keane teaches us to play the instruments and teaches us good rhythms and beats.”
