Performing Arts

    Christian Fernandez

    Performing Arts Leader

    Christian Fernandez

Coming from a long line of performing artists, I have been passionate about learning about these disciplines for as long as I can remember. My background is as a classical composer but playing music has led me to investigate a wide variety of music genres and styles. My curiosity for teaching and learning about The Arts, together with my keenness to experience new cultures and artistic scenes, took me away from my natal Mexico City to perform, teach, and travel in places like South East Asia, Europe and the United States. I am convinced that Performing Arts play an integral role in the learning experience of a person, and I believe that the skills acquired through this practice will aid in every area of a child's development. For this reason, I always stride to cultivate in my students that same curiosity and life-long love for Performing Arts that has fueled and enriched in my life. I am delighted to be back in Chicago after six years working for our Nord Anglia school in Singapore. My wife is a Chicagoan and we love to be closer to our families, friends and of course... deep dish pizza!

    Sara Kelly

Dance Specialist & Blackhawk House Captain

    Sara Kelly

I was born and grew up in a small town in Scotland. Growing up I developed a passion for dance which gave me the opportunity to compete and perform across the globe and eventually gain my teaching qualification in Dance. It was my love for teaching dance that led me to completing a B.Ed in Primary Education. I went on to teach in both Scotland and Dubai, before finally moving to Chicago where I was thrilled to join the team at BISCLP.

It is such a wonderful feeling being part of a vibrant international community of learners and educators. The school really embraces the same philosophies of teaching that underpin my practice. Learning is personalized to each student’s interests and learning style. With a focus on their individual learning journeys, I aim to provide a learning environment that fosters a sense of security and equips children with the tools and opportunities to develop a sense of self belief and break down any barriers to learning. They should feel comfortable, resilient and optimistic to overcome any challenges they face.

    Beth Hollander

    Music Specialist

    Beth Hollander

I was born and raised in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago. Growing up, I spent most of my time performing onstage with various choral groups and musical theatre companies. While completing my undergrad, I studied abroad in Salzburg, Austria, where I was able to immerse myself in Austrian culture and developed a love for foreign lands. After completing my degree in music education, I moved to Hong Kong for a year-long internship, and lived in Mainland China for three years working as a music teacher.
