Year Leaders

Our middle leadership team represents each year group at BISC Lincoln Park from Pre-Nursery to Year 6. These nine leaders hold weekly meetings with their year groups and serve as representatives at our staff meetings too. Reporting to our key stage leaders, they are the senior leadership team's first point of contact regarding all year groups.

When in the classroom, my main aims are to excite, inspire, and nurture all children. I pride myself in creating a safe, secure, and loving environment. I believe each child is an individual with individual needs and that their learning should be personalized and structured to meet those academic needs. Every child deserves to learn in a holistic, nurturing environment where both their educational and emotional needs are fully met. This will essentially help every child reach their full potential and feel content and supported while doing so.

I grew up in Walsall, a small town near Birmingham in the UK with my parents, grandparents, and older brother who is now living in Indiana with his lovely wife. My family is of Greek Cypriot descent, and being Greek means always having a house full of friends, family, and children cooking and eating at every opportunity.

I grew up in the South East of England (Kent) with my parents and older sister. I’ve always been interested in how children learn, and my first degree in Psychology gave me a great insight into this. During this time, I lived in London for three years and developed an admiration for big cities and all the exciting things they have to offer. My fascination with new cities continued when I took a gap year after my degree and explored South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand. I have now been in Chicago for three years and love living here! I especially like the various neighborhoods within the city and how they all offer something a little different.

Teaching was something I always wanted to do after having such a positive school experience of my own while growing up in a small town in Lincolnshire, England. Before moving to Chicago I taught in both Key Stages 1 and 2 in a highly successful primary school in the outskirts of Liverpool following my graduation from University.

I grew up in London and, after finishing my degree, I took a range of jobs in the city before deciding to enter the teaching profession. My wife is from Michigan, we met when we were both working as summer camp counselors in Maine, and we married in 2009, staying in London for 3 years before making the move across the Atlantic to Chicago. I am a West Ham fan and run the supporters' club here in the city. There are plenty of reasons to like Chicago, but the one thing I love is that it is made up so many different people and cultures from across the globe, creating a culturally rich environment that you can see and hear and feel.

I graduated with first class honors in Primary Education in 2004 from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. I taught in Scotland for four years before starting my international teaching experience at the British International School of Chicago, Lincoln Park in 2008. After spending three wonderful years teaching in the Early Years Department and enjoying life in beautiful Chicago, I left the states to join my (now) husband, Oliver, in his home country of Spain.

I am originally from Ireland, where I worked as a journalist for four years after graduating. Following a brief stint in Australia, I moved to Brighton, England to train as a teacher. I remained there for four years before moving to Chicago in 2015. While Ireland will always be home, I feel more like a Chicagoan every day and love the fact that I can look at that beautiful skyline on my daily cycle to work.

I believe that creativity and challenge help our students get better every day because they give a child the freedom to explore new skills and the chance to surprise themselves and others. Too often, children and adults have ceilings constructed above them through labels or expectations. However, by opening up the curriculum with creativity and challenge, we give each child the chance to do the unexpected.
