Year Leaders

Our middle leadership team represents each year group at BISC Lincoln Park from Pre-Nursery to Year 6. These nine leaders hold weekly meetings with their year groups and serve as representatives at our staff meetings too. Reporting to our key stage leaders, they are the senior leadership team's first point of contact regarding all year groups.

I am from a town called Huddersfield in West Yorkshire. I studied for two years to become a qualified Nursery Nurse, before attending Edge Hill University near Liverpool where I undertook my teaching degree. After graduating, I moved back to my home town where I began teaching in a local primary school. I had the pleasure of teaching there for two years in a Reception class where I gained many invaluable experiences, such as, setting up a brand new classroom. During my second year of teaching I became Science Subject Leader for Early Years and KS1. This past year, I moved to a different Key Stage and set up another new (Year 2) classroom in a newly built teaching space. I first visited Chicago earlier this year on a holiday and I fell in love with the city, its diverse culture and unforgettable food. I am thoroughly excited to become part of the team at BISC Lincoln Park and to discover what more the city of Chicago has to offer!

    Nursery Leader

I grew up in Walsall, a small town near Birmingham in the UK with my parents, grandparents and older brother who is now living in Indiana with his lovely wife. My family is of Greek Cypriot descent and being Greek means always having a house full of friends, family and children cooking and eating at every opportunity. I enjoy cooking and traveling and have been fortune enough to visit family in Melbourne, Australia and Cyprus, which was wonderful. I have also visited Rome, other parts of Italy, Croatia, Auchwitz in Poland and many Greek Islands where I have learned a vast amount of cultural knowledge that I use and pass onto the children in my class. I love exploring the city of Chicago, its neighborhoods, parks, and all it has to offer. I look forward to finding out more of Chicago and the states in the USA.

I grew up in the South East of England (Kent) with my parents and older sister. I’ve always been interested in how children learn, and my first degree in Psychology gave me a great insight into this. During this time, I lived in London for three years and developed an admiration for big cities and all the exciting things they have to offer. My fascination with new cities continued when I took a gap year after my degree and explored South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand. I have now been in Chicago for two years and love living here!  I especially like the various neighborhoods within the city and how they all offer something a little different.

Teaching was something I always wanted to do after having such a positive school experience of my own while growing up in a small town in Lincolnshire, England. Before moving to Chicago I taught in both Key Stages 1 and 2 in a highly successful primary school in the outskirts of Liverpool following my graduation from University. Chicago is such a vibrant city with so much to do. I enjoy exploring the city and especially trying out all the wonderful restaurants and watching the local sports teams. I am a keen sports fan and enjoy keeping fit in my spare time.

    Rachel Armstrong

    Year 2 Leader

    Rachel Armstrong

I grew up in London, England, born to American and Irish parents. I began my teaching career in a small, close-knit school in south-west London, where I spent three very happy years teaching Reception, Year 5 and Year 2. Keen to broaden my cultural and educational experience, I then moved to South Korea to teach at Dulwich College Seoul. From there, I moved to Garden International School in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where I was a Year 1 class teacher and Reading Subject Leader. I have been at BISC-LP since 2017. I am a keen musician; I play the violin and piano, and I sing in a number of choirs. In fact, I love anything related to the performing arts. Reading, drawing, cooking, travelling, and running (preferably by our beautiful lake, rather than on a treadmill!) are my other hobbies.

I am originally from Ireland, where I worked as a journalist for four years after graduating. Following a brief stint in Australia, I moved to Brighton in England to train as a teacher, where I remained for four years in before moving to Chicago in 2015. This city is incredible, and every week there is an opportunity to explore something new no matter where your tastes lie, be it sports, the arts or food. My favorite thing has been exploring all of the different neighborhoods.

I am originally from North Yorkshire but have been lucky enough to spend the past few years working internationally and exploring the world. I gained my undergraduate degree in Music Technology from the University of Huddersfield and then spent a year as a Kindergarten Teacher in Taiwan before completing a PGCE and subsequent Masters at the University of Exeter. My international career has taken me to Ethiopia and Malaysia so far and I am very much looking forward to moving to Chicago this summer. I love the outdoors and can be found on a mountain or putting up a tent most weekends. I am very keen to explore Illinois’ State Parks and hiking trails as well as taking morning jogs down Chicago’s Lakefront Trail!
