    Rachel Blumenthal

    A Chicago native, Rachel Blumenthal maintains an active freelance career here in the city. She performs as a regular substitute with orchestras like the Chicago Symphony, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and the Grant Park Music Festival. In addition to freelancing and teaching here in Chicago, she holds permanent positions in the Santa Fe Opera and the Sarasota Opera. She completed fellowships at the Boston Symphony's Tanglewood Music Center, Aspen Music Festival, and National Repertory Orchestra, among others. Rachel teaches in the Department of Chamber Music at the University of Chicago in addition to maintaining a lively private studio. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Michigan and a Master of Music from Carnegie Mellon University.

    Stephen Burns

    Conductor, composer and trumpeter Stephen Burns is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Fulcrum Point New Music Project in Chicago. He has been acclaimed on four continents for his virtuosity and interpretative depth in recitals, orchestral appearances, chamber music, and multi-media performances.

    He has worked closely with composers John Corigliano, Osvaldo Golijov,  Gunther Schuller, Jacob TV, and La Monte Young. Native to Wellesley, Massachusetts, Mr. Burns studied under Carmine Caruso,Armando Ghitalla,Arnold Jacobs, Vincent Penzarella,Gerard Schwarz,Pierre Thibaud, William Vacchiano, and Roger Voisin at the Tanglewood Music Center, the Julliard School, and postgraduate work in Paris.

    He won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, Avery Fisher Career Grant, the NEA Recital Grant, the Naumburg Award, the Charles Colin Award, the Meier Arts Achievement Award, and the Maurice André Concours International de Paris. Mr. Burns is a former tenured Professor of Music at Indiana University, a certified teacher in The Art of Practicing and Performing, and Visiting Lecturer at Northwestern University, as well as with Amici della Musica in Florence, Italy. CDs at Naxos, MHS, Dorian, Delos, Essay, Kleos, & Innova. Stephen Burns is a Yamaha performing artist.

    Hyejin Joo

    Native of South Korea, Hyejin Joo won various awards from the Wideman International Piano Competition, Northwestern Concerto Competition, Indiana University Concerto Competition, Seoul National University Concerto Competition, Chautauqua Competition, Thaviu-Isaak Competition, and Kumho Art Foundation Audition. Most recently, she was a Gold medalist at the Seattle International Piano competition and performed at Benaroya Hall. 

    Also as an active chamber musician, she is a member of Stellio Piano Trio, prizewinner of Plowman Chamber Music Competition, semi-finalist at the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition and guest artist for the Peninsula Music Festival ChamberFest. 

    She earned her Bachelor of Music from Seoul National University, receiving the prestigious scholarship for selected top students and was granted the position of Associate Instructor upon entering Indiana University. She received her Master of Music degree and Performer Diploma there with full scholarship under the tutelage of Arnaldo Cohen. She performed venues such as the Banff Centre, Chautauqua Fletcher Hall, St. Petersburg, FL, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Gilmore Masterclass Series, Palais Altenstein, Schloss Hallenburg in Germany and other various venues in Chicago area. Hyejin performed with the Northwestern Symphony Orchestra as the winner of the annual Concerto/Aria competition and was invited to perform with the Bienen String Orchestra, both under the baton of Maestro Victor Yampolsky. She was also featured soloist in the opening concert of the 67th Peninsula Music Festival in Door County, Wisconsin.

    She is currently a doctoral candidate at Northwestern University where she studied with Alan Chow.
