Our students constantly strive to know what they are learning, why they are learning a particular topic and what they can do to get and be better. Each and every day someone comes away with something new, which for me is why we are unique.
I graduated from the University of Wales Aberystwyth in 2001 with a Bachelor's degree in Science, which was and still remains my favorite subject to study. After deciding to fulfill my ambition to become a teacher, I moved to Oxford Brookes University to gain my Postgraduate Certificate in Education specializing in the primary age range and ICT. For my first teaching post I was fortunate to work in a village school of a mixed Year 3/4 class on the edge of the Staffordshire Moorlands with amazing views of the English countryside from my classroom window.
I joined British International School of Chicago in 2007 as a Year 3 teacher. I was excited by the prospect of teaching in an international setting with a chance to broaden my experience. In my time at BISC, I have been in three school buildings and a class teacher for year 3, 5 & 6, holding positions such as Math Leader, English Leader, Assessment and Assistant head for Learning. I was appointed as Head of Primary when we moved to South Loop. It has been an exciting period growing from strength to strength implementing new and exciting curriculum enhancements that challenge our students, staff and parents to be ambitious in all they day each and every day.
In my free time, I am a keen runner, having successfully run the Chicago marathon three times and numerous other races across the United States. You will quite often see me on the lakefront in all weathers enjoying the spectacular view of our city. I love to travel and the outdoors, as often as possible I visit national and state parks to indulge in the fresh air and outdoor activities such as camping, kayaking, ice-climbing, and biking.
