I attended university in Manchester, studying environmental studies with languages. Following this, I went on to fulfill my dream of becoming a teacher and completed my Post Graduate Certificate of Education at university in Bristol, before teaching in two different Primary schools in England. I have been teaching for over 10 years, and during this time I have had the opportunity to teach within Key Stages 1 and 2, and have taught a range of year groups from Years 2-6. I have also enjoyed being responsible for developing teaching and learning in ICT across the school and being involved with the mentoring and moderating of teachers in training.
I grew up in Hampshire, on the south coast of England. Many of my interests, such as swimming, sailing and walking have evolved from growing up close to the sea. I especially enjoy travelling, experiencing different cultures and meeting new people, and I continue to search for new and exciting places to visit, always looking to plan the next trip! My first experience of living abroad and different cultures came when I spent a year as an au pair in France before attending university. I also enjoy experiencing new cultures and cuisines, and will always experiment with new recipes in the kitchen or trying out a new restaurant, sharing it with family and friends!
Having come from a family of teachers, who had always been so passionate and enthusiastic about their profession, it seemed very natural to become a teacher myself. I believe teaching to be one of the most rewarding professions, and I regard it as a privilege to be a part of the early stages of a child’s life journey. I strive to enable all children to realize their full potential, equipping them with the self-confidence and social awareness to make the right choices now and in the future.
I feel privileged to be a part of such a talented team of people at British International School of Chicago, South Loop. Every day is different, and I am continually growing and developing, as I learn so much from the expertise and creativity of others, including the children! The ethos at the school sets it aside from anywhere else, working in such a supportive and collaborative environment. The International Primary Curriculum is an exciting way to teach and learn together, with the inspiration coming from the excitement and passion of linking the children’s learning in real and innovative ways. Through individualized learning, all children are recognized for their uniqueness and have so much to bring to every lesson, with a willingness to learn and achieve.
