I have always enjoyed being creative and finding out new information, so becoming a Primary School teacher was a natural career choice for me. I studied at University of Dundee, completing a four-year Primary education degree. Throughout my course I gained valuable experience in inner city schools and rural settings. I have been lucky enough to travel a lot, so returning to an exciting, vibrant city like Chicago to do a job I love is a dream come true! As soon as I researched the school and read about its educational philosophy I knew BISC was for me.
I began my teaching career in a large, multicultural city school in Scotland. After my first year I was offered a full-time position at the school. Whilst at the school I took on numerous roles. I was responsible for developing Information and Communications Technology, Arts and sports teams. I believe learning should start with the child, and students should be actively engaged in lessons. Education should also harvest a child’s creativity and allow them to take risks in a safe and encouraging environment. BISC is an institution that shares these beliefs.
I have many hobbies and interests. Travel is my main interest. I spend most of my summer vacations taking in different cultures and sights. Another love of mine is music. I have written and performed many pieces of music and most recently put on a successful show at the Edinburgh International Fringe Festival. In terms of sport I am a big soccer fan and enjoy watching Glasgow Celtic.
