Phil Wrigley

Phil Wrigley

Nursery Teacher

I believe Nord Anglia Education schools place a strong emphasis on teaching core numeracy and literacy skills from a young age. I feel children greatly benefit from this firm grounding in key subjects and that the program of "accelerated learning" will set children up to be successful learners into their adulthood. The program of study offered at our school allows children to build upon their interests and strengths, which in turn makes children enthusiastic about their learning.

I attended St. Olave’s Grammar School in Orpington, Kent and went on to study for a bachelor’s degree in history at the University of Kent at Canterbury. I particularly enjoyed studying American history and decided to write my final year dissertation on the American civil rights movement.

I had various temporary jobs, including working for a Swiss Bank in the Financial District, before I decided that I would like to follow in my mum’s footsteps and become an Early Years teacher. After doing some voluntary work at a local London school, I enrolled at the University of Roehampton, Surrey to begin a PGCE Primary with an Early Years Specialism. In 2005, I joined the Early Years team at a small Church of England school in Greenwich. I taught both Reception and Nursery class there for more than eight years and held the post of Early Years Coordinator. I applied to work at British International School of Chicago as the chance to teach and live in the United States seemed like an unmissable opportunity to me.

I was born in London, England where I grew up with my brother and sister and a succession of pet cats! Aside from my time studying in Canterbury, I’ve always lived in England’s capital city and I will always have a great affection for my home town. Outside school, I enjoy socializing with family and friends, trying new food, visiting the cinema/West End theatre, reading and (trying) to keep fit at the gym. I also have a keen interest in real estate, interior design and architecture and frequently drag along unwilling friends to view new homes with me! I enjoy international travel and have been lucky enough to visit the United States, Canada, Australia and many countries in continental Europe.
