Rebecca Kring

Rebecca Watkins

Reception Teacher | Primary Enrichment Coordinator (Clubs)

I feel a real sense of community at our school, one that encourages both individuality and cooperation. I love the acceptance and celebration of different cultures and backgrounds within the school as I believe this fosters a happy and safe environment for the children, parents and staff.

I gained my undergraduate degree in archaeology and ancient history at the University of Exeter. After graduating from university I accepted the position as an English as a second language teacher working within the Korean Embassy in South Korea. The two years I spent there were extremely rewarding and fuelled my ambition to become a teacher. I moved back to England to pursue my Post Graduate Certificate in Education specialising in Early Years from Oxford Brookes University. I have since taught in a Reception and Year 1 class in a rural primary school in Oxfordshire. I took the decision to take up a position here at British International School of Chicago as I wanted to develop and challenge my skills and teach in an international setting where excellent practice is championed.

I enjoy travelling and meeting people from diverse cultures and backgrounds, and am interested in learning new languages such as Korean. I am sure I will relish exploring Chicago’s rich and diverse culture and hopefully other parts of the United States. I also am extremely interested in ancient history having taken part in many archaeological excavations of historically prominent sites including Stonehenge. I hope to impart a passion for these things and a wonder of the world we live in to the children in my care.
