I graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 2002 with a BSc (Hons) in Design & Technology with qualified teacher status and then spent the next 5 years working at The Minster School in Southwell, Nottinghamshire where I became a member of the school ‘Improving Learning’ team. I delivered whole school training sessions to support colleagues in developing their understanding of thinking skills and producing resources to utilize in their teaching. I then moved to the Colonel Frank Seely School in Nottinghamshire as Assistant Head of Design & Technology where I was responsible for mentoring trainee teachers, developing the KS3 curriculum in line with the UK National Strategy and introducing A Level Product Design.
After 2 years in role I made the move to international teaching with The Alice Smith School in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where I spent the next 11 years in various roles as a Head of House, Strategic Development Coordinator and Assistant Head of Design Technology. In my time at the Alice Smith School I led a house of 180 students in sports days, charity and community events, helped introduce a new assessment system, led the development of an innovative and exciting KS3 curriculum and co-planned the overhaul of the KS4 & KS5 schemes with the Head of Department in line with UK changes. This ensured students received a Design & Technology education that transitioned and developed each year, building and developing new skills, knowledge and understanding, in order to nurture designers, engineers and architects for a sustainable future. Throughout my career I have taught all year groups in Design & Technology & Product Design, as well as the extended project qualification in year 12. I have also spent 10 years as a Sixth Form Tutor and Soccer coach in my previous post prior to joining BISC South Loop.
Away from the classroom I love spending time with my Wife and 2 young Sons, watching movies together, building Lego, playing sports and exploring the world and nature around us. I’m an AFOL (Adult Fan Of Lego) and I like to build medieval and fantasy based castles to unwind after a busy day. I’m also a big sports fan and enjoy playing & watching most sports. In the UK I had a season ticket for 23 years at the world’s oldest (and possibly worst!) professional Football club Notts County and regularly attended Nottingham Panthers Ice Hockey matches. But my passion lies in Soccer coaching. For the past decade I have coached U16 & U19 girls Soccer in Malaysia, the highlight was winning the British International School Phuket Soccer 7’s in 2018, the largest schools Soccer tournament in Asia.
