Dance Specialist | PE Specialist | Head of Year 8
I truly believe in the benefits physical education has to offer young people, as it connects with their physical, mental and social wellbeing in a way no other subject can, and correlates exactly with the official definition of health.
Music Specialist
I have always had a passion for music which has not only brought me joy and a sense of togetherness from a personal perspective, but I have been most fortunate to develop my interests into a professional career.
I studied the Bachelor of Education Music (Hons) at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where I developed and expanded my skills whilst teaching music at Primary and Secondary schools throughout the West Coast. The course allowed me to continue developing my specialism in piano, but also gain experience of playing a variety of other instruments.
After graduating, I completed my probation year at Bearsden Academy in Glasgow, where I was nominated as Probationer of the Year. Subsequently, I was offered a permanent position at Bearsden Academy allowing me to continue teaching Music and Music Technology, and also introduce the Music for Wellbeing and Musical Theatre National Progression Awards. I was also a proactive member within the Music Department’s extra-curricular activities, establishing a Folk Group which competed at the Scottish School’s Pipe Band Championships for three consecutive years.
During my time at Bearsden Academy, I worked alongside the Wellbeing and Language and Communication Resource Department to provide Music for those with Additional Support Needs. Whilst teaching, I also furthered my professionalism by acting as an appointee for the Scottish Qualifications Authority.
I hold a BA (Hons) Music Production from Leeds College of Music; PCGEi (with Distinction) from Nottingham University
Drama Specialist
I grew up in a beautifully picturesque town in Northern Ireland and studied at the prestigious Omagh Academy Grammar school. There I enjoyed the buzz of performing through being an avid member of the Omagh Youth Choir and the Drama Society. These experiences formed the basis of my character as I have been passionate about Drama since producing my first school play “The Importance of being Earnest”.
