Ryan Allen

Science Specialist

I grew up in a small town outside of Bristol, where my love of the outdoors led me to complete an Ocean Sciences undergraduate degree at Bangor University. Whilst at university I realized that teaching was the career I wanted to pursue; and so upon returning to Bristol, I completed my postgraduate certification in education at the University of the West of England.

Most recently, I have been Head of Science at a school in Slough, where I have successfully overseen the planning, development, and implementation of the latest GCSE and A level Science curriculum. This provided an excellent opportunity to show students that learning Science can be as exciting, thought-provoking, and applicable to the real world as I believe it to be. As a curriculum leader, I have also been privileged to lead a dedicated team of 14 science staff, oversee the complete refurbishment of the science laboratories to maximize and support student learning and embed the latest educational research to develop high-quality pedagogy.

Furthermore, my passion for teaching and learning has enabled me to hold other positions of responsibility across multiple schools, including leading whole school training, coaching staff across various departments, and gain experience within the Senior Leadership Team.

I love being active, whether that is playing sports, going for long walks or traveling the world to experience different cultures. So far I have traveled to various countries in Europe, Malaysia and Singapore; and hope to be able to explore the many beauty spots of North and South America.

I also love being involved in a range of sports such as, football, rugby and squash. However, despite being an avid Arsenal fan, I am really looking forward to being a fan of one of the many Chicago sports teams. I just need to learn the rules first! Furthermore, I am looking forward to being able to try new sports for myself, as well as supporting the running of school teams and events.

Some of my other interests including reading David Baldacci and Lee Child novels, as well as following UK and US politics.
