Emma Nicholls

Geography Specialist

Before starting teaching, I studied Geography at Queen Mary University of London and then did my PGCE at Sussex University. I have spent four fantastic years teaching in London where I have had the privilege of undertaking various roles within the school community. I am head of A level Geography as well as a specialist leader of education.

I have also been a head of house and deputy head of year. Outside of my subject, I have helped run the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh award, taking students outside of the classroom and challenging them outside of their comfort zone. I have also coached the girls’ football team and embarked on a football tour to Paris.

Outside of work, I am a keen footballer and qualified coach. Whilst I am a lifelong fan of the great Tottenham Hotspur, I'm now looking forward to adopting some of the great Chicago sports teams. I have played football throughout my life. I was captain and president of the university football club, winning back to back league titles.

My love of geography has made me an avid traveller. I took two years prior to university to travel, backpacking through South America, New Zealand, Australia and Southeast Asia. I then worked for Camp America and was placed as a special needs counsellor at a YMCA summer camp in Ohio. I spent three fantastic summers as a camp counsellor, both running the special needs programme and immersing myself in all of the other main camp programmes. I love to travel to new cities and cannot wait to explore Chicago.

This school is different to all others I have worked at because…

Of the emphasis on student’s own personalised learning journeys, equally the smaller class sizes will allow me to focus on a student’s individual strengths which I hope will enhance their progress as well as personal development.
