On Sunday evening, we held our Term 2 Parent Teacher Consultations. Thank you to the large number of parents who attended, despite the traffic complications, to share feedback on their child’s learning this term. We look forward to working with you for the remainder of this term and next term to ensure that your child makes good progress and is challenged in their learning.
We will be holding a Family Day at the Sharq Village & Spa on the revised date of Saturday, 25 March. Tickets will be on sale from Wednesday at a cost of QR200 for adults and QR50 for children. The day includes a BBQ lunch, organised activities, water sports (extra cost) and scheduled games.
The event was a huge success last term and I’m sure both children and adults will enjoy a day by the beach and pool. The hotel has arranged a special rate of QR700 for an overnight stay, should you wish to avail of the offer and enjoy a weekend break.
Tickets will be on sale with the Sharq Village & Spa representative at Rayyan Campus until next Thursday afternoon and will be available at the door on the day of the event. We look forward to seeing you there.
This year there will be no increase in our school fees. Reenrolment and new application forms have been sent out and should be returned to school by the end of March. If your child is transferring to Year 7 at Madinat Khalifa, you should complete a transfer form for them and any siblings who would like to transfer there. Places are limited. Please see Lisa Dyer if you would like any further information.
On Monday we had a visiting artist, Ms Deborah Trew, who engaged our students in an ambitious art project to draw and paint a large mural, which captured the essence of Qatar. Our Student Council and Eco Warriors spent the first part of the morning with her, sharing their ideas and starting the project. Throughout the day, many children were involved in painting and adding detail as the painting developed. It was the focus of attention with everyone wanting to be involved. Early Years, Year 1 and Year 2 added the finishing touches with their finger prints to add colour and charm to the mural. We are really looking forward to seeing it on the wall at the end of the building and it will be a great reminder of the day. Thank you to Mrs Creissen and Ms Humera for assisting with the project.
On Wednesday evening we held our Year 6 to 7 transition evening at Madinat Khalifa, led by Dr Creissen, Head of Secondary, Paul McConnell and his team. Parents shared a very informative presentation about secondary education and the journey through to Year 13. There will be an Open Day on Saturday, 1 April to experience some highlights of the secondary curriculum and find out more about what we offer at Compass. Further details will follow.
Excitement is growing for the Year 5 Desert Excursion next week where our children will head to desert camp to stay overnight and gain a sense of independence in a safe and secure environment. I am sure they will have lots of great stories to share on their return.
Year 1b shared their learning about plants and growing this morning. They spoke out loudly and clearly and sang enthusiastically for the audience. The have definitely grown so much since the beginning of the year and it was lovely to share their learning.
Amanda Lobo from our Finance Office will be at Rayyan on Wednesday, 22 March to receive payment for Term 3 invoices. She will be available in the Reception area.
There is a growing pattern of children arriving late and being collected late from school. Registration starts at 7.15am and children are expected to be in school at that time. Our registers close before 7.30am so children arriving at that time or after are late. This morning alone 37 children were late to school which meant that they disrupted assembly by opening and closing the doors and trying to find their class. Children miss the valuable start to the day and time to settle with their class which can upset them for the whole day. Please make sure your child is in school on time.
Similarly at the end of the day, school finishes at 1.30 pm and parents and children are expected to clear the school grounds by 1.40pm so that we can account for all children who should be in ECA’s or have not been picked up. ECA’s finish at 2.30pm and children should be collected promptly. Last week we had some children not picked up until almost 4.00pm and this is not acceptable. Children who are not picked up promptly will not be allowed to attend ECA’s. Please make sure your child is collected on time. We will be monitoring this in the coming weeks.
Friends of Compass are holding a movie night tonight. There are a few tickets left which will be available on the door at a cost of QR10. The film starts at 5.30pm and popcorn will be served at the interval. We are looking forward to a movie night under the stars if the weather holds up but if not, we will move to the hall.
Have a lovely, relaxing weekend.
