I hope that you are finding the time to relax and enjoy your break.
Last week was another eventful week at Gharaffa. It was wonderful to see our parents engaging in mathematical problem solving and writing activities such as sentence building, dealing with tricky words and forming letters correctly plus attempting to solve some complex mathematical problems using various strategies. The school has received numerous positive remarks about the workshops and how beneficial they have been. Thank you to Kevin James (English coordinator) and Hannah Brown (Maths coordinator) for leading the morning’s activities. I would also like to thank the children from Year 5 who led some of the activities.
In last week’s assembly, 2B children informed us about the human body and its purpose and functions. The children impressed the school with their knowledge, their clear delivery and recollection of key facts and some excellent dancing. We hope parents enjoyed the assembly. Also on Thursday, 4B shared their IPC Ancient Egyptian unit, ‘Temples, Tombs and Treasures’. We enjoyed finding out about Howard Carter’s discovery of Tutankhamun and how the Ancient Egyptians mummified bodies. Well done to all the children in 4B for their knowledgeable, entertaining delivery.
Also on Thursday, the children learned about their next Global campus activity. Their task is to create a super hero out of lego, take a photograph and submit it to Sarah Lees by 21st February. This should be an exciting challenge for your child over the half term break. See your child’s learning letter for more information.
Next week, the school will be hosting a ‘School in Action’ morning. This will take place on Wednesday 7th February, 7.45am to 9am. This is similar to the ‘Class in Action’, however, parents are free to visit any classroom or department to engage with the children in their daily activities. We look forward to parents visiting our PE, Music and Arabic lessons and if you’d like to take a break partway through you are more than welcome to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee which will be provided in our pergola. We hope to see all our parents at this event.
Today you will have received our February ‘What’s on’ calendar. As you can see, the school is hosting many exciting events, such as Sports days, the FCS Movie afternoon, our annual Arabian night and at the end of the month, Book week. Please remember that the children can wear a costume for the Book week parade on 25th February. This might be a character costume or an outfit linked to literature. Be as creative or as alternative as you like. Also next month, Jessica Meyer, the school’s Juilliard Music and performing arts link will be flying in from New York on 22nd February to deliver master classes to the children. We are looking forward to welcoming Jessica.
On behalf of the Gharaffa team, I’d like to say thank you for all your support this half term.
Enjoy the break.
