Dear Parents,
What a fantastic week we’ve had, and a real buzz around the school. We held our secondary Sports Day at the Aspire Dome on Tuesday. This is the same venue that will hold the World Athletics Championships this year – the student had no excuse not to be inspired!
The day was a totally inclusive event, with over 400 students all competing. The morning session saw a carousel of year groups moving on after 20 minute sessions where all had a good at the different stations that ranged from a tug of war to shot put to high jump. What was extremely impressive was the ‘open' event of the 800m. I hope you saw the video footage on Facebook of this and the numbers of students that participated in the race. The afternoon session comprised the ‘finals'. Students had been selected through strict assessment and tracking procedures in their PE lessons. This led to some fierce competition and excellent races, rounded off by the 4 x 100m relay. The crowd had been whipped into a frenzy and this continued with the celebration of the lifting of the trophy.
Whilst some will be enjoying a well-earned rest this week, our IB and Year 11 students will be focussing hard at the decreasing time they have left of school and the revision and consolidation they need to put in place.
Two upcoming dates for your diaries will be our Options Evening on the 19 February. This is aimed at Year 9 students and their parents who will be starting this process soon, however, any parents interested in this phase of the school are also welcomed.
Our ever-increasing Friends of Compass School is also holding an event on Saturday 23 February from 09:00 – 11:00 at Al Bidda Park. I hope to see you there.
Yours sincerely,
Tom Douch
