Our last assembly of the academic year was a celebration of a highly successful year. We were all very sad to say goodbye to some of our children who received special cards from their class mates. We wish all our children much success and happiness in the next chapter of their school career. We also said goodbye to a number of Compass Team who will be very much missed by the children and other faculty. We also hope their life’s journey is happy and rewarding.
Last week, the school further celebrated its success when we received word from the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) Accreditation Team that we have been accredited as an IPC school. This was wonderful news for the school and testimony to our outstanding teaching and learning. The school plans to further improve next year with a whole school focus on being ambitious and taking risks.
Please be informed that information regarding your child’s class will be sent out to parents before the school opens in August 2019. Classes have now been very carefully balanced with the children choosing a friend who they would like to join them in their next class.
Whilst thinking about school uniform, please remember that black shoes must be worn for school. These should be comfortable but not trainers. Avoid buying any shoes which are branded (Nike ticks) or have white heals.
The school term starts on Sunday, 25 August. There will be the usual staggered start on the first day only. Children in Year 6 are expected to arrive at 7.15 am and children in Early Years to Year 5 expected to arrive at 8.00 am. Year 6 students and staff members will help guide our families to new classrooms. The expectation after this date is that all children are lined up at 7.15am on the school playground. 7.15am is the start of the school day.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful Friends of Compass School (FCS), in particular Matina Voortman for leading such a dedicated team who have organised some fantastic events this year. Our Movie Afternoon, International Picnic and Health and Fitness Morning and the students Blanket sale were a great success. We hope that more of our parents will join the group next year. I would also like to thank our Class Representatives who have been wonderful, supportive Gharaffa ambassadors.
I would like to end this year’s newsletter by thanking all parents for their continued kindness and support. Your children are lovely, caring individuals who are a credit to the school. I would also like to thank the wonderful Gharaffa Team who have worked relentlessly this year to ensure that the school is a happy, safe learning environment. We are all very proud of our success in raising standards in the school which continues to offer and further develop outstanding programmes and learning experiences. This year, our academic results were excellent across the board in all Years and subject areas, confirming that our school is one of the best international schools.
Have a relaxing, fun holiday. If you are leaving the school for good I wish you the very best of luck and much happiness. I will be in touch before the start date with a few reminders and further information. We are very much looking forward to seeing our families on Sunday, 25 August 2019.
Head of Campus, Gharaffa
