The Spirit of Compass

The Spirit of Compass - the-spirit-of-compass
The Spirit of Compass Find out more about the Compass community spirit from one of our Rayyan parents.

At Compass International School Doha’s Rayyan campus, parents can rest assured that their children receive a quality education.

Nalini Jitman, mother of Neelam, Narayani & Nirvan S. Moonasar who attend our Rayyan campus, shares what the Compass community spirit means to her and her family.

For the past six years, I have witnessed a dedicated and well-led staff, who work relentlessly to develop academic excellence and social responsibility across all students. At this school, you will find an active and dynamic parent community who collaborate with the administration in providing a strong sense of community.

Upon entering the school compound, you instantly feel welcomed and appreciated by each member of staff. The school has a thriving parent volunteer group (Friends of Compass School) who dedicate their time to organizing a diverse range of school community activities such as family movie nights, bake sales, and family day outings. As well, parents have the unique opportunity of being actively involved in their child's learning. Often parents are invited to share their knowledge with students at events such as STEAM Week, French Bilingual and Arabic language programme activities, Book Week and International Week.

The Rayyan campus is an ethnically diverse, secure and inclusive campus. Here, student differences and opinions are valued and appreciated. Feedback is frequently requested from parents and ideas for improvement, always taken into account by the Head of Campus (Ann Djedid).

Students recognize and practice good citizenship and are encouraged to respect their peers and teachers. In line with a keen focus on academic excellence, the school provides various engaging avenues for children to showcase their talents. Inter-school sport and swimming competitions, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) challenges, music productions, global art competitions, bilingual and additional language programmes and talent shows are just a few of these school driven events. Furthermore, children are always encouraged to express themselves creatively and demonstrate their curriculum based knowledge at school assemblies, to which parents are always invited.

The school empowers children through numerous channels such as Prefects, Captains, Student Council, Eco Warriors and so on. Here, children are encouraged to maintain healthy eating habits and develop a sense of social responsibility for their school and wider community. Parents work alongside the administration in a unified effort to promote a strong sense of community and camaraderie though activities such as Beach Clean Up campaigns and various charity events.

For the school, communication is a key priority. Parents are always kept abreast of class and school related events through conventional and electronic methods. Furthermore, parent seminars are conducted regularly, to facilitate an improved understanding of the curriculum. Various parent-teacher consultations are organised over the academic year, which allow parents to be updated on student progress at an individual level. Once identified, student learning gaps are effectively addressed through the provision of Individual Education Plans, ensuring that no child is left behind.

The teachers at Rayyan campus are well chosen and bring with them not only professional experience, moreover they provide a spirited and progressive approach to classroom learning. Over the years I have observed the children at this school grow confident in their abilities, demonstrate adaptability and resilience and move toward self-regulated learning. I feel truly honoured that my children continue to benefit from such a dynamic school community and remain motivated to learn and attend school.
