Madinat Khalifa Primary Headlines | Monday, 2 March 2020 Weekly news from Madinat Khalifa Primary Campus by Mr Jimmy Frawley, Head of Madinat Khalifa Primary.

Dear Parents,

We have had a fantastic week of learning and experiences outside of the classroom and I would like to share a few highlights with you.

Qatar National Choir Competition

Our MK Primary choir joined their counterparts from our Gharaffa, Rayyan and Themaid campuses to compete in the Qatar National Choir Competition at the QNCC. Unfortunately, the choir did not make it through to finals but deserve a huge amount of credit for their effort, attitude and collaborative skills. The students performed two pieces, with their fantastic rendition of ‘Hot Chocolate’ being a highlight. Thank you to Mr Basulto for all his efforts with the choir and special thanks to Mrs Antonini and Mrs MacDonald for supporting the students on the day of the competition.

Juilliard Musical Visitors

We kicked off the week with an assembly from Juilliard Artists, Flutronix, who wowed the students with their performances and stories about playing and composing songs with the flute. Throughout the day Allison and Nathalie worked with our Primary students in Music lessons, teaching them composition and instrumental skills. The students left these sessions inspired and I would not be surprised if a number of primary students start learning the flute!

The Year 6 Blue Pearl Residential

The Year 6 Residential Expedition reached its conclusion after three spectacular action-packed days. The children enjoyed activities ranging from biking to bushcraft, whilst experiencing camp life complete with toasted marshmallows and some less appealing treats!  The trip also tested their water proficiency, as they took part in activities such as kayaking and paddle-boarding. A big thank you to our partners at Blue Pearl for facilitating the camp, and to our other three campuses who enriched the experience of our own students by bringing their own willing and enthusiastic participants.

Year 1 IPC Entry Point Educational Visit

On Monday, Year 1 had their Entry Point for their new International Primary Curriculum topic ‘From A to B’. The children were excited to be collected by Doha Bus from school. Our first stop was MIA park, we then travelled to The Pearl before stopping for lunch at Katara. From Katara we travelled to Al Bidda using the metro where Doha Bus collected us and brought us back to school. On the day the children recorded all the different types of transport they saw. The children were all extremely well behaved and were great role models for our school showing respect and morality throughout the day. Many thanks to our parent volunteers, Mrs Alayan, Mrs Alkhatib, Mrs Seesarun and Mrs Bekka, for supporting the students on the trip. Well done Year 1!

Have a great week!
