Year 6 Teacher and English Coordinator

    Ann Firth

I am originally from County Wicklow in Ireland. After graduating from the University of Limerick with a Sports & Exercise Science degree I began coaching in summer camps in the USA. It was over this time I developed a passion for teaching children and I decided to complete a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). I first arrived to teach in Qatar in the year 2000 and fell in love with the people and the culture and have stayed ever since. I met my husband here and my daughter was also born here and as such I feel Doha is my home away from home.

My name is Anna, and I am from Dublin, Ireland. Having completed my Undergraduate degree in History, Politics and International Relations from University College Dublin in 2013, I moved to Mombasa, Kenya, where I lived for a year managing an educational volunteering programme in a small village, working with a local school. This experience was to inspire me to train as a teacher, and I gained my iPGCE from Sunderland University in 2017, while living in Dubai.

    Barry McKernan

I am from County Tyrone, Ireland. I have a Degree in Sport and Physical Education and completed my PGDE in Primary Education.

I started my teaching career in Liverpool, England in 2017. I have always worked in the primary sector and have experience across every Key Stage. Since moving to Qatar in 2018, I have worked as a Year 4 and Year 5 teacher in Key Stage 2. I spent three years at a British Curriculum school before moving to Compass International School in 2021. I love my job and have found that delivering a high-quality education to young children is an extremely rewarding career choice.

I have one sister. My father works as an engineer and my mother is in the catering industry.

Deputy Head of Primary and Year 5 Teacher

    Douglas Allan

I have spent three years working at Compass International School Doha here in Doha with my wife and two children, where I have been a Year 1 teacher, a Year 4 teacher, Milepost Lead and recently the Deputy Head of Primary. This academic year, I am working in Year 5 as Milepost Lead.

I have been lucky enough to also work in schools in China, Venezuela and Mexico and I have had fantastic but different experiences of working in these countries. I truly believe that working in so many countries has made me an international citizen and I use these experiences to feedback into my teaching where possible.

    Year 5 Teacher

    Grace Halls

After graduating with a law degree, I gained my Post Graduate Certificate in Education in the UK in 2010. I began my teaching career in the south west of England and taught in KS1 for two years before embarking on my international teaching career. Over the last seven years, I have worked across three different Nord Anglia schools in Vietnam, Hong Kong and most recently Myanmar.

My experience in Asia has provided me with a sound understanding of teaching and supporting children in an international setting as well as meeting the needs of EAL learners. I have taught across all primary year groups and this has helped me to develop a good sense of learning progression and the development of children across the primary ages.
