Ann Firth

Year 6 Teacher and English Coordinator

I am originally from County Wicklow in Ireland. After graduating from the University of Limerick with a Sports & Exercise Science degree I began coaching in summer camps in the USA. It was over this time I developed a passion for teaching children and I decided to complete a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). I first arrived to teach in Qatar in the year 2000 and fell in love with the people and the culture and have stayed ever since. I met my husband here and my daughter was also born here and as such I feel Doha is my home away from home.

I have worked in several schools in Doha and have held numerous leadership roles over my 20-year teaching career. As well as leading and coordinating subject curriculum areas I have also managed and led teaching teams through my roles as Key Stage 1 Phase Leader and Deputy Head teacher. Recently I took a 2-year break from teaching to complete a Masters in Leadership and Management of Education with the University of Bath graduating with a distinction. Prior to this break I worked as a Year 6 class teacher and English subject leader at Madinat Khalifa campus.

In my free time you are likely to see me jogging around the beautiful parks in Doha or hacking up Education City golf course. I take every opportunity to enjoy the many sporting events which we are privileged to have access to here in Doha.

I am delighted to return to Compass International School in the familiar role of Year 6 teacher and English subject leader. I am most looking forward to getting to know my class and encouraging them to put forth their best effort over the course of the year. For me, ‘Be Ambitious’ means that every child will be provided with opportunities to grow and my students will be stretched to reach their full potential inside and beyond the classroom.
