Year 12 Form Tutor and Head of Science

I qualified as a science teacher following a Post Graduate from the University of London Institute of Education last century and have been teaching for almost thirty years. In that time I have taught in almost every type of school and held leadership posts as Head of Department, and Key Stage Coordinator as well as Head of Secondary School in Warsaw.

I have worked in the UK, Taiwan and in Poland.  I taught Science to IGCSE, Biology to A-level and IB Biology SL and HL. One of the most interesting experiences of my career was teaching year 6 and coordinating science in our primary school for 6 years, I learned a great deal from this experience and have great respect for my Primary School colleagues.

I enjoyed all aspects of my role as Head of Secondary School in Warsaw, and in particular the opportunity to help our IB students achieve their dream destinations through UK University applications. I completed a postgraduate course of study related to this at Cambridge University and am in the process of further developing the careers information, education, advice and guidance provided to all students in our secondary school. I keep up to date with the latest developments in education through reading publications and Nord Anglia University, where I particularly enjoy the lively global debates in the staffroom area.

I was born in Birmingham, England and have a great deal of affection for ‘Brummies’, who are generous and straight talking people. My parents came from Poland and my father was demobbed to Birmingham after World War 2. I was brought up on the stories of their youth and experiences before and during the war. I have two grown up sons who were in the first intake of students at The British School, Warsaw when it first opened in 1992.

I am looking forward to my role at Compass International School Doha, Madinat Khalifa.

High performance learning means helping every child achieve their personal best, whatever their ability or attitude to learning. Motivation to learn is a strong factor in academic success, particularly with teenagers, therefore building confidence through success in small steps in all subjects is one way of keeping students wanting to learn for the rest of their lives. Developing skills for a 21st century future workforce involves a much richer range of possibilities than ever before. The advanced performance characteristics, combined with the values, attitudes and attributes of HPL, not only motivate, but provide our students with a toolkit for the opportunities that lie ahead of them at University and beyond.
