I have always had a strong interest in sport, some might call it more of an obsession! This is the catalyst in my passion for teaching, I recall back to my careers meeting in secondary school which I remember clearly; when asked if I had thought what I want to do when I leave school? The answer was simple… “I want to be a PE teacher sir!”
I studied Sport and Exercise Science at Portsmouth University and completed my PGCE in Essex where I lived and grew up. My first School as a PE teacher was in Essex which I really enjoyed, two years in I stepped into the Pastoral Team becoming a Head of Year where I remained for a further three years. The school was great and I was very comfortable.
However, I began to think there is so much more out there I haven’t seen. The vast opportunities, experiences and culture this country has to offer had hooked me. Having never really left my home county before this is a challenge I am really excited about.
Being a PE teacher I live and breath sport, I will try my hand at anything sport related. My background is football where I became a ‘National Universities Champion’ and racquet sports. My favorite sporting story is Derek Redmond in the 1992 Olympics, the message and emotion it brings as a reminder of someone’s determination and courage – if you haven’t seen it, now is your chance to.
