Head of PE & Community Sports

After graduating from De Montfort University with a B.Ed Hons degree in PE, I taught in Suffolk in the UK for 12 years. During this time I worked as a Head of PE and Head of Year and these roles allowed me to develop my educational philosophies and tailor them to the students in my care. I believe strongly in a ‘Sport for All’ philosophy where all students are given opportunities to succeed and participate regardless of their ability. I want all my students to develop a love for PE in an environment where they are supported and nurtured and where they can express themselves freely to achieve their athletic, cognitive and leadership potential.

In 2006, I wanted to develop my teaching in an international context and have over the course of  the last 11 years taught in The Bahamas, Shanghai and Hong Kong. The students that I have taught overseas have been exemplary and are a joy to teach. The work ethic and the maturity of the students that I teach never ceases to amaze me.

I am excited at working once again for Nord Anglia Education and am working in the Middle East for the first time. I hope that my team can build on its successes in terms of the ECA programme that we run and look to develop new and existing partnerships so that we can offer our students a wide range of leisure activities that will set them on their way to adopting fit and healthy lifestyles. At the heart of every PE teacher there is a desire to coach winning teams, foster a strong team spirit and demonstrate fair play and sportsmanship both on and off the field. I am no exception to this and I will expect our teams to adhere to these high standards at all times.

Out of the classroom I naturally follow all sports and am a passionate supporter of Hull City Football Club. My enjoyment and understanding of football allowed me to coach within the English School’s Football Association at district and county level to secondary students  for over 10 years. Opportunities to play football and golf have been put on a back burner since the arrival of William and our twins Emily and Eleanor although I expect that there will be a few visits to Doha Golf Club when time permits.
