Mark Stephenson

Year 1/2 Bilingual Teacher and Milepost 1 Leader

I have had extensive teaching experience across all pre-school and primary stages since graduating from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, in 1998. As of 2010 I have been part of the Senior Leadership Team in three primary schools in West Lothian in the capacity of Principal Teacher. My current position is in an advisory capacity across two primary schools, funded by Scottish Government as part of the Scottish Attainment Challenge (SAC). As SAC Principal Teacher I have responsibility for ensuring excellence and equity for all children and ensuring their full potential is achieved.

My wife and daughter moved to Doha last August and have settled in well to life in Qatar. I have visited several times and have had the opportunity to meet some of the staff and children at Compass International School. I have observed a focus on exceptional academic standards and a variety of opportunities provided to encourage children to achieve higher attainment in a broad range of areas, within and outside of the classroom. This has convinced me that CIS has the ambition and vision that parallels my principles and has encouraged me to join the team at Al Rayyan campus from August 2018.

I am looking forward to reuniting with my family full-time and exploring the Middle East. As a keen outdoor enthusiast I will be guaranteed dry weather – unlike the uncertainty of the Scottish climate. I hope to spend my free time continuing my hobbies of cycling, kayaking, playing and refereeing football and enjoying cultural events such as concerts and theatre.
