After leaving College I played regularly with the BBC Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, City of Birmingham Symphony and Halle Orchestras, with conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Mark Elder, Sir Edward Downes, Gennady Rozhdestvensky and Yehudi Menuin amongst many others. I have played at several BBC PROM concerts and have appeared on television and radio.
My husband and I, having three very young children, decided that we wanted to travel and see more of the world. In February 1999 we left England and moved to Lima, Peru, not knowing what to expect. We had a fabulous three years there and would certainly recommend travel to Peru. We followed this by spells in Papua New Guinea, Norway, the USA, Poland and in August 2016 we moved here to dusty Doha. Since becoming Head of Music I have started a primary choir, secondary choir, ukulele club, run two secondary productions (“Beauty and the Beast” and “Annie”) and helped to run the Funkadelic Orchestra and community choir. We have several performances throughout the year and also take part in competitions.
I also helped to organise the first Nord Anglia Music Extravaganza in Dubai in May 2017. Forty-seven children from our Gharaffa, Rayyan and Madinat Khalifa campuses joined students from our sister schools in Al Khor, Abu Dhabi and Dubai in this first Nord Anglia Music Extravaganza event; this year I took 14 students from Rayyan and Madinat Khalifa to the Nord Anglia European and Middle East Music Festival in Bratislava; our primary choir and Funkadelic Orchestra took part in the first ever Qatar National Music competition in October 2017 and each came third in their respective categories.
In my spare time, much to the dismay of Mr Porter, I like to go shopping. I love to go to the cinema, especially the 7 star cinema here in Doha and when I have the time, during the holidays, I like to watch ridiculously large amounts of television.
