When You Arrive

You've likely been planning your move to Dubai for weeks, months or even years. Once you've checked off every detail and finally moved to Dubai, it's time to start exploring this beautiful city! The best way to become comfortable in your new home is to dive straight in.

Dubai has a slew of modern conveniences that make traveling and transitioning as easy as possible. Ample public transport, excellent amenities and top-notch quality health care will make your arrival process simple. If you have any questions along the way, a welcoming community of parents and school staff at Nord Anglia International School Dubai is here to help.

Traveling Around Dubai

Dubai offers a variety of affordable and convenient ways to travel. You'll likely arrive at Dubai International Airport, the primary hub of international traffic. From here, you can easily grab a taxi or request your own private transportation using a mobile app, Careem and Uber. When traveling around the city, taxis and Careem/Uber vehicles continue to provide a popular mode of transportation. You can also opt to take the Dubai Metro, a rapid transit rail network that will help you to, quite literally, rise above the city traffic. If you have a car or purchase one in the city, you'll find impressively maintained roads that make for smooth driving — the United Arab Emirates’s (UAE) highways are considered to be among the highest quality in the world.

You might need to adjust your expectations if you're used to biking or walking as a regular means of transport. Traffic congestion, major highways and high temperatures in Dubai mean that while a pedestrian or cycling lifestyle is certainly possible, it's often not preferable.

Medical Care in Dubai

Dubai has one of the best public health systems in the world. The city has four major hospitals — each offers emergency care and employs staff commonly fluent in English. As an expat, you'll be in good hands if a medical need arises. To access these public health services, you'll need a UAE health card. You can also opt for private health care through your health insurance.

While there are many well-stocked pharmacies in Dubai, stringent pharmaceutical laws mean that normal over-the-counter medications in your country may require a prescription in Dubai.

Connecting With School Parents

Having a support system can make a world of difference when you're moving to a different country and adjusting to all kinds of new norms. Nord Anglia International School Dubai has a thriving community that is here to help you feel at home. If your child is a new student at NAS Dubai, you're automatically part of our Parents' Association — no sign-up or fees required. Through monthly gatherings and fun school events, you'll have ample opportunity to connect with school parents and make this community your home.

If you have any other questions about how to prepare for your move or what to expect when you arrive, please don't hesitate to reach out to us today.
