Samantha Healy

I am originally from Cheshire in the North-West of England.  I graduated from the University of Durham in 2001 with a BA Hons degree in Japanese with Chinese.

Upon graduation my love of adventure led me to Japan to take up a role in local government as a Coordinator for Grassroots Internationalisation.  During this special time in Japan, I found that I had a passion for teaching and my love of learning led me back to university in Liverpool to study a Postgraduate Certificate in Education, specialising in English.  I have experience of teaching across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, and this has given me a clear understanding of the learning journey through the primary phase.

My teaching career to date has been full of rich and highly relevant experiences in international settings, which have allowed me to develop into a reflective and holistic practitioner. Growing to understand how children learn, and realising that I can make a difference to that learning, has been and continues to be the driving force behind my passion for teaching.  I truly want to help each and every pupil I teach to receive their entitlement to an excellent education and to achieve their maximum potential. I enjoy planning engaging activities and learning environments that provoke children’s curiosity and encourage them to explore and learn in a way that is meaningful to them. I am a strong believer in the child-led approach to learning as I believe that it encourages the children to take ownership of their learning and promotes a life-long love of learning.

The UAE has been my home since 2012.  I first relocated from UK to Abu Dhabi to join the Nord Anglia school, BISAD.  I spent four wonderful years in Abu Dhabi before joining NAS Dubai in 2016. I took a career break in 2018 in order to spend quality time with my newborn daughter and when she embarked on her own learning journey at nursery school in 2021, I was fortunate enough be able to rejoin NAS Dubai.

Outside of school my little girl certainly keeps me very busy! Together we take advantage of all the wonderful activities and opportunities that Dubai has to offer for small children and their families.  We love exploring and spending time at the pool and at the beach.  When we are not there, you can find us at one of the many play centres, water parks and attractions such as Ski Dubai or the safari park!
