I took a break to raise my 2 boys and then elected to pursue my long-held passion, to teach. In 2014, I completed my teaching qualification with Nottingham University (UK) and followed this up with a Masters degree in Education, specialising in the development of children’s reading.
I have been fortunate to have been exposed to a wide range of teaching experiences, both at our sister school in Abu Dhabi (BISAD) and for the last six years at NAS Dubai. These include being an inclusion teacher, a cover teacher across both Early Years and Primary and more recently, a full-time class teacher. This varied exposure has been invaluable to my understanding of the learning requirements and demands of different year groups and students. Being a mother myself has also provided that unique insight into both the mind of a child and the aspirations of a caring parent.
I am originally South African but have lived away from my home country for a long time, spending 12 happy years in the UK, followed by over 11 years here in the UAE. I have two sons in Secondary, both of whom attend NAS Dubai. I enjoy travelling with my husband and children to explore different countries and locally, we love to hike and camp in the beautiful dunes and mountain wadis that the UAE has to offer. I like to keep fit through paddling on the ocean, cycling and doing gym exercises. I enjoy reading and painting, which I find very relaxing. I love animals and have two cats and two dogs, all of which are rescue animals.
My favourite author is Dr Seuss because his playful, quirky stories teach us so many important life lessons. I always try to find beauty in the world around me, even in very small things; this is a life skill I try to teach the children in my care, since even when life might seem hard, there are always wonders around us to marvel at.
