This will be my fourth year teaching at NAS Dubai and my second teaching Year 6. I am originally from Hull in England, though I lived in Manchester for 10 years. I moved to Manchester to study at the Royal Northern College of Music where I gained a performance-based degree; my principal study being the trumpet. I began teaching music lessons to primary school children which is where I discovered my love of teaching, though I then worked in orchestra management before completing a PGCE in Primary Education.
I previously worked in Year 3 at a school in Stockport, before making the move to Dubai 3 years ago and teaching Year 4 for two years. Since beginning my career as a teacher I have relished the challenges and opportunities which it has brought me, taking on the role of Leader of Future Thinking Skills last year. This challenge has enabled me to be involved in competitions, festivals and trips relating to our STEAM curriculum and the 4Cs: creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and communication.
Outside of teaching my main interests are around sport and travel. I am a keen runner who has taken part in races in different countries. I began competing in triathlons last year and I am hoping to complete my first full Ironman competition next summer. I also paddle in a dragon boat team.
I really enjoy living in Dubai and a huge part of that is the happiness I feel coming into school every day and having a career which I love. I strongly believe in broadening the minds of young people and encouraging them to take control over their learning to explore their potential. Part of my role is to inspire children through being a good role model, being fair, and creating exciting learning experiences. I look forward to beginning a successful year with my new class in August!
