Secondary English

I am a firm believer that English is a global study that should be embraced by every community. Whether this is for language speaking and communication purposes, or to enjoy the vast array of literary texts English has to offer.

I am a firm believer that English is a global study that should be embraced by every community. Whether this is for language speaking and communication purposes, or to enjoy the vast array of literary texts English has to offer.
My passion lies with Shakespeare and poetry; I am particularly excited to teach the morality aspect texts have to offer and to discuss these with such forward-thinking students – this way I can guide them to evaluate their own position in society.
I was born in Merseyside, however, I moved to the North East of England at a young age and it was there that I spent my formative years. I moved to Manchester for University and received a First-Class Degree in English Language. I quickly fell in love with the city and proceeded to stay in Manchester to complete my Post Graduate Certificate in Education. I obtained my first teaching job at my training school, where I have worked for a further two years.
I believe in continual growth as a person. During my two teaching years I have embraced every opportunity available to aid my progression to become the teacher I am today, as well as the teacher I aspire to be in the future. I have been both an English Language Examiner and an English Literature Examiner for AQA for three years running. In addition to this, I have also led a LEXIA reading programme for my school, with the focus of doubling the progress students make in their reading skills and raising the reading ages of students within a one-year period. My knowledge of the skills needed to succeed in the British National curriculum has secured in the past two years and I look forward to transferring these skills to the IGCSEs completed at NAS Dubai.
In my spare time, I am an avid runner and hiker, and have completed several runs and hikes across the UK, recently running the Manchester half marathon. Also, I am extremely passionate about helping the community I am in - I have led on several volunteer programmes primarily helping young people and women who find themselves in difficult situations. I currently volunteer at a Scout group and look forward to bringing the skills I have learnt from this, and all other volunteering I have completed, into extra-curricular activities at NAS Dubai.
I am thoroughly looking forward to joining the NAS family in August and to become a part of the community in a school with a reputation for excellence across Dubai.
