Secondary English

I am extremely excited to be joining Nord Anglia in September and teaching at a school with such a positive and uplifting philosophy: the promise of ‘no lids on learning’ is something which resonates with my own beliefs.

I am extremely excited to be joining Nord Anglia in September and teaching at a school with such a positive and uplifting philosophy: the promise of ‘no lids on learning’ is something which resonates with my own beliefs. As adults and teachers, we must always inspire our students to aim for more and believe that anything is achievable. I believe as teachers in a global school we convey the endless possibilities our students will have when you’re educated, confident and ambitious.
Born and raised in the North East of England, I have always loved my hometown but have recognised the importance of travel and experiencing new places. After gaining my English degree from the University of Sunderland, I took a year out to travel before returning home to complete my teacher training with Durham SCITT. After qualifying as an outstanding teacher in 2015, I have taught at the same school for three years before making the decision to broaden my horizons and teach internationally.
English has always been a passion of mine. I love the studying and analysis of texts and the opportunities it allows for discussion, debate and free thinking. An English classroom is one where students can become passionate, opinionated and enthusiastic about a host of different texts, which they otherwise may not have discovered. Through studying English, you can become knowledgeable about different cultures and ways of life and literature often allows, and sometimes forces you, to consider your previously held beliefs and what you think is morally correct. As a teacher, there is nothing more exciting or enjoyable than seeing students become animated and ardent about the subject.

Outside of the classroom, I love keeping fit, eating out and researching new travel destinations!
