Carrie McNerney

Carrie McNerney

Secondary Mathematics, Assistant Head

I was born and raised in a small village in County Longford in Ireland. I have a BSc (honours) degree in Biology and Mathematics which I attained from the National University of Maynooth in Ireland. From there I completed my IPGCE in Mathematics at Bangor University in Wales.

I am currently in my eleventh year of teaching. During my career I worked for four years in Liverpool and four years in Dubai. I have held many positions including Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 coordinator, Second in Department and Curriculum Leader for Mathematics. I have been very lucky to teach students from a wide range of backgrounds. I have extensive experience with the UK KS3 National Curriculum, GCSE, IGCSE, A-levels and IB. The examination results attained by my classes over my teaching career have proven that my teaching in the classroom has a positive impact on results. I look forward to continuing this at NAS Dubai to ensure my students are attaining their full potential.

During my spare time I enjoy running, cycling, cooking and travelling. Having recently launched the KenKen challenge in my school I can now often be found trying to solve a 9x9 puzzle!

I am a firm believer that Mathematics is not a subject to be taught but to be discovered. I believe that teaching Mathematics through investigation is the key to developing a love and a passion for the subject. It is my continued aim as a teacher to ensure the development of the whole student through a positive and challenging experience within lessons and an extensive enrichment programme.
