My name is Erika Conyngham and I am incredibly excited to be joining NAS Dubai this summer as a Teacher of Science.
I will be moving to Dubai this summer from a small town called Southport in the North West of England and it is near to Southport where I began my teaching career. In July this year, I will be finishing my current teaching position at a school in Preston, where I have taught science to years 7- 11 and I have specialised in chemistry at GCSE level, taking the current top set chemistry class through their GCSE’s.
I graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a BSc Hons degree in Chemistry. During my undergraduate degree, I also completed an exchange programme where I completed a year of my course studying in Australia. Since graduating from Manchester Metropolitan University, I have also lived in China and Austria. After this, I worked as an industrial chemist but it wasn’t before long where I realised my passion was for education. I completed my PGCE in Secondary Science and during my PGCE year, I was granted a teacher training scholarship from the Royal Society of Chemistry. Education is incredibly important to me which is why I am currently completing my Masters degree in STEM Education, the education of science, technology, engineering and maths.
In my spare time I love travelling; visiting and experiencing new places. I also enjoy outdoor sports such as skiing and water sports and I have a keen interest in performing arts.
When I join NAS Dubai, I intend on leaving inspirational, lasting impressions on all of the pupils I teach. I aim to deliver outstanding science lessons, showing science as the fascinating and incredible subject it is; opening up the learning experience to every pupil.
NAS Dubai is a fantastic school which offers great opportunities for its pupils and I cannot wait to be a part of the NAS Dubai team this summer.
