Theory of Knowledge Coordinator

From as early as I can remember English has been both my passion and my calling. I am extremely excited to be joining Nord Anglia Dubai to share this enthusiasm with my students and inspire them to enjoy the study of the English language and its literary heritage.

I was born and raised in Lancashire until I was 18 when I moved to The University of Sheffield to study English Language and Linguistics. After this, I chose the Teach First Leadership Development Programme as my route into teaching, gaining my PGCE through Sheffield Hallam University. After intense teacher training I began teaching full time at an academy in Leeds, which developed in me a real sense of resilience and an understanding of the importance of education, both for each individual student and our society. Working in an outstanding academy has fuelled my love of the teaching profession and I truly relish being part of such a dynamic and ever-changing line of work. After teaching English in Oslo in the summer of 2016, my desires to move abroad and gain a better understanding of global education were galvanised, leading me to pursue a career in Dubai.

While at my previous school, I was promoted to Subject Lead for English for the new trainees across the academy trust. In this role, I was responsible for delivering professional development to our cohort of trainee teachers, helping them understand the ‘why’ and not just the ‘what’ in their teaching practice – a principle I adopt both in my wider life and classroom. In addition to this, I have been studying for an MA in Education and Leadership at The University of Manchester which has allowed me to indulge in my love of educational research, applying this in my own classroom and thoroughly evaluating its effectiveness.

The mantra I live by is a simple one: improve yourself. I believe that we all should strive to improve ourselves professionally, academically and personally, at all times. I believe through reflection, celebrating our successes, and identifying our areas for improvement, we can work day-by-day to be the best versions of ourselves possible.

In my spare time I enjoy cooking and keeping myself fit. I know the importance of both a healthy body and a healthy mind in leading a successful and contented life.

I truly believe the study of English can have a transformative effect on our lives: broadening our horizons, building our empathy, forcing us to view other perspectives. I am excited to share my passion with my students and colleagues and look forward to meeting you soon.
