I joined the British International School in 2011, initially as the Learning Resource Centre Manager. In 2015 I completed my Post Graduate Certificate in Education through the University of Sunderland, and moved to my current role as an English teacher. I hold a BA in Music Technology from Bath Spa University, and a Masters in English/Creative Writing from the University of Oxford. Before moving to the US, I worked for four years in the music department of Oxford University Press.
I love my subject and love to read and write, and I have been lucky enough to have poems, short stories, and literary criticism published in a variety of literary journals, both online and in print. (In 2017, a poem of mine was included in the ‘Best New British and Irish Poets’ anthology, published by Eyewear, which was quite nice!)
Beyond the world of literature, I enjoy cooking and making electronic music (rarely together), and am extremely pleased to be able to run an electronic music enrichment activity at BISH. I am married to Ms. Capper, who looks after all of the important documents.
What the students say about me
“A genuinely great teacher who knows when to be honest with us and when to be funny.”
“The support and help [he has] given us has really made all the difference.”
“Mr Smith does not like it when my writing is vague.”
