    Mr Harrie Thomson

    Mr Harrie Thomson

    BSc (hons) Sport and Exercise Science and Sport Psychology (LJMU); Graduate Teacher Programme with QTS. 

    Harrie has been at BSKL for 9 years, arriving in a year after it opened. Before this, he taught at a leading Sports College in UK, Charters School. Harrie and the PE team have developed an inclusive, broad and competitive sports programme with something for everyone. There are opportunities for children as young as year 2 and from year 4 there is at least one extra-curricular sports activity per day for children. Sport is used as a vehicle to develop characteristics such as courage, resilience and perseverance. The priorities of the sports programme at BSKL are effort over all, enjoyment and personal improvement. In 2018/19, 85% in year 4-13 of children chose to do additional extracurricular sport outside of school hours during the year. BSKL have a rich culture of sport. Harrie is also on the FOBISIA Executive Committee for Physical Education which is the largest organisation of British schools in Asia. The committee aims are to ensure the quality of FOBISIA games experience and to provide Professional Development opportunities to physical education teachers in the federation, the later Harrie leads.

    Primary PE Teacher

    Mr Jamie Reisman

    Jamie qualified as a primary school teacher in 2012, working as a class teacher at a school in London. Over the next four years he taught in a number of different year groups to develop his teaching practice. Throughout this time Jamie led a range of subjects including Science, Music and PE. In 2016, due to his expertise, passion and interest in physical activity, Jamie was given the full time role of Primary PE Teacher and Co-ordinator. This included teaching PE to children from EYFS to Year 6. During this period, he successfully developed key principles throughout the school to change the culture around physical activity and sports participation. Jamie has taught a range of different primary school sports from Dance and Gymnastics, to Football and Tennis. He is extremely passionate about PE and the effect it can have on children, developing a wide range of skills and empowering them to reach their potential.

    Jamie is a keen footballer and competitive runner. He has run 6 marathons and countless half marathons in the last 5 years. In Rotterdam, he reached his goal of a sub 3 hour marathon. He wants to encourage everyone to develop the resilience and growth mindset needed to achieve all of their goals.

    Mr Gareth Pearson

    Gareth is originally from Yorkshire in the UK but has lived in Asia for over 10 years. He has worked in Thailand and Borneo before moving to join BSKL 4 years ago.

    As Head of Swimming at BSKL, Gareth believes in a broad, challenging and enjoyable aquatics programme that engages all students. He also teaches PE across the school and is heavily involved in all BSKL Lions teams.

    Outside of school Gareth enjoys competing in many different sports and plays rugby for the KL Tigers. He also enjoys the occasional round of golf with friends and travelling to new places.

    Wilson Chai Wai Seng

    Wilson has been an avid swimmer ever since he was 12 and as he has trained at the national level as a competitive swimmer in Malaysia during his growing high school years. As time passed by, he decided to adopt his hobby as a profession. He prides himself with his patience and his ability to handle children of all ages delicately whilst setting challenges to improve their water confidence. Wilson loves to travel and experience different cultures and food.

    Swimming Coach

    Mr Yang Chong Teng

    Swimming has been CT's passion from a very young age. He has been coaching since leaving University in 2006 and is a FINA Qualified Level 2 Coach since 2010. His specialty is forming the all 4 competitive strokes in competitive swimming, and devising a successful periodised swimming program. He also coached a Malaysian state waterpolo team and obtained favourable results. CT has worked with the Royal Malaysian Navy and managed to raise the swimming and water polo standards within the Royal Malaysian Armed Forces. He finally found his calling to be working with children and young adults of various ages especially in swimming and water polo, it is a dream come true for him to be offered a position in BSKL to be based solely on aquatic activities. Other than swimming and coaching, photography and miniature painting are some of his favourite past-times.
