I completed my teacher training at the University of Exeter and began my career at a school in Somerset, a highlight of which was developing a transition programme for local primary students into secondary. I then moved to Shanghai to work at an award-winning IB school and have spent the last three years developing the curriculum there as Deputy Head of English. I’m incredibly excited to be in Malaysia and already enjoying the challenges and opportunities it presents.
My interests include reading, running, music and cooking (but not at the same time). One of my favourite authors is Charles Dickens. If ever I find myself wearing "the chain I forged in life" like Dickens's phantoms, I feel fairly confident that it will be made of books and coffee beans.
Student happiness, in my role as an English teacher, is about developing confidence and a "voice" in terms of writing and speaking. It is also about encouraging students to think critically beyond the classroom and to question the world around us.
