After completing my PGDE in English, I began my teaching career at a state school in Nottinghamshire. During my time there, I taught English Language, Literature and Media Studies across all three key stages. I was also appointed assistant head of department, and later KS3 English coordinator. In 2018, I followed my dream of teaching abroad and moved to an international school in Malaysia. I have spent the last three years teaching English at KS3, IGCSE and IB level, and working in a range of leadership roles, including departmental and a whole school SLT associate post.
Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked as a Personal Trainer. This reinforced my desire to teach, as I really enjoyed sharing my knowledge and empowering people to achieve their goals. Despite the career change, I still enjoy keeping fit and regularly take part in running events and races, such as Tough Mudder obstacle courses. My favourite sports are weightlifting and Formula 1. I also enjoy yoga, travelling and reading.
Student happiness comes from building strong relationships and creating a safe and positive atmosphere that allows students to thrive. It also means learning and growing in a supportive environment, which encourages taking risks, trying new things and not being afraid of failure.
