I started my teaching career in the UK at an Academy in Milton Keynes where I spent several years developing my pedagogy in all 3 Science subjects. My first step into international teaching was at a school in Germany, where I also started developing my leadership skills by completing the National Professional Qualification of Middle Leadership. My project for this qualification was focused on raising attainment in Science by focussing on subject specific literacy. This has been invaluable for my teaching of students for whom English is an additional language, and it still guides many of my classroom practices today. In 2015 I left Germany for another international school in Malaysia before moving on to China where I joined the Nord Anglia family. After 4 exciting years developing the Science department in Beijing I now return to Malaysia and am excited to take on the role of Head of Science at BSKL.
My interest in education stems from my passion for my subject and an innate desire to share knowledge of the world around us. I love working with young people and nurturing their curiosity, imagination, enthusiasm and ambition. I am a keen environmentalist and truly believe in the value of education beyond the walls of the classroom. I am a trained scuba divemaster and enjoy working on conservation projects both with students and in my spare time. The diving areas, beautiful wildlife and opportunities for exploring nature are part of what drew me back to Malaysia.
Happiness looks different to every individual. Students are most likely to find happiness when they are provided with a secure, safe environment where they are encouraged to explore their passions and are guided with care, respect and empathy. I believe the pursuit of happiness if a life-long journey and that it is our job as a school community to nurture every aspect of their development so they have a strong enough sense of self to find it.
