As the Head of Secondary at BSKL, Dr Nicola Brown believes their role in promoting student happiness is to provide a safe environment for students to take risks, and to continuously improve and make progress. She has taught and held leadership roles across a variety of schools in London and Malaysia.
My main hobby is reading. My favourite books are non-fiction and based on science or philosophy. I like to learn and to think logically as I read wide-ranging topics and subjects. My favourite sports to participate in are running and biking. I like to spend time outdoors surrounded by the beauty of Malaysia. Being a small part of a huge natural environment is very calming to me.
I chose to be a teacher because I wanted each day of my working life to be worthwhile and meaningful. Working with young people is exceedingly important and rewarding in my opinion. It is enjoyable to be surrounded by a community with such energy and hope for the future. I feel a sense of satisfaction as I witness the growth and maturation of each young person that spends time in school with us. It is a privilege.
I believe our role in promoting student happiness is to provide a safe environment for students to take risks, and to continuously improve and make progress. Each child is unique and will follow a individual path to happiness and success. We guide students towards self-knowledge and self-acceptance. The confidence this brings allows young people to be courageous and compassionate for themselves and others. This leads to happiness and peace.
