I began my teaching career in 2004 and since then have taught across a range of primary year groups, from Nursery all the way up to year 6 (and beyond for a short time!). I was lucky enough to begin my work as a teacher in an exemplary school in Brighton. After several years I moved to West Africa where I worked with primary teachers in government schools. Following that I returned to the UK for a number of years and then was invited to come and teach at BSKL.
"Life long learning" is a phrase that gets used very commonly, but I think the reason I have such a great love of teaching is that I also have a great love of learning. I enjoy developing new interests, whether that be practical, academic or sporting, I still get an enormous amount of satisfaction from learning something new (even golf which I enjoy despite the fact that I am forever destined to be a truly awful player). I am still in awe of the incredible opportunity that society gifts to children when they get to attend school. The reason I love my job is that at BSKL I am surrounded by professionals that share that sense of responsibility for ensuring our pupils get the very best from their time at school.
For me student happiness begins with each pupil feeling safe and valued. From that position of security, they can make friendships, challenge themselves and thrive in ways that make them feel happy.
