Working with the artists-in-residence gives our students a unique perspective on the world of art and what it takes to become an artist in one of the most creative cities in the world.
We are fortunate to be located in the East Village of Manhattan, which is famous for its music, visual art and theatre scenes. Gershwin, David Bowie, Basquiat, Keith Haring and Andy Warhol all had their studios within a few blocks of the school.
When we opened the school, we wanted to make sure that we were rooted in the community. We invited inspiring local artists to set up studios in our school - the artist-in-residence program was born.
Incredible visual artists, world-renowned choreographers and professors of music therapy call our school home. They work with our students to give them a taste of what it means to be a working artist in New York and they collaborate with our performing arts team to help the students create inspiring works of art and produce incredible performances.
Our annual Artists-in-Residence week is one of the highlights of the school calendar. The whole week is devoted to students creating artwork, choreographing dances and creating drama works with the artists in residence. At the end of the week, we invite parents and the community into the school for an evening of performances.
